It was standing room only at an exciting and well-attended Tech Talk held at MiraCosta College on March 14, 2018. More than 180 students, faculty and IT professionals attended the second annual event which was also simulcast throughout the college.
Students came to learn about MiraCosta’s new IT degrees and certificates, and to mix and mingle with industry and government representatives and corporate recruiters representing MIS, cybersecurity, programming and digital media. Industry panelists represented top employers in the area including Robert Half, Webroot, Sentek, ViaSat, FSB Associates and MCTSSA.
Dr. Leroy Brady, San Diego/Imperial Regional DSN helped organize the event along with Rick Cassoni, Professor of Computer Studies and Information Technology at MiraCosta. Brady said one of the highlights of the night was the Raspberry Pi 3 raffle at the end of the event. The computer went to a young lady names Christa, who really wanted it, but didn’t have the budget for one.
Brady hopes to continue to bring Tech Talks to colleges in his region and is grateful for the support of administrators like Dr. Sunny Cooke, President of MiraCosta College and Dr. Al Taccone, Dean of MiraCosta’s School of Career Education, both of whom attended last week’s event.
“The Tech Talks have grown into a huge opportunity to engage industry and faculty while empowering students towards positive guided career pathways,” said Brady.
