Following requests from instructors at several North/Far North Region colleges who are using the Region’s shared NETLAB+ System, and after extensive testing and collaboration between Folsom Lake College, the Los Rios CCD IT Department, and Palo Alto Networks, the North/Far North Regional Consortium (NFNRC) NETLAB+ has implemented a file transfer system that benefits both students and instructors.
NETLAB+ File Transfer (NFT) allows students to a) transfer files between their NETLAB+ virtual machine and their Google Docs cloud storage and b) upload their work to the Canvas LMS to allow for more efficient grading and record-keeping by their instructors.
Markus Geissler, Deputy Sector Navigator for ICT-Digital Media in Greater Sacramento (North Region) notes that, “We expect that NETLAB+ File Transfer will broaden the use of NETLAB+ beyond ICT-related courses because other disciplines can now make specialized and sometimes expensive software available to students outside of the confines of a college’s computer lab. This will make it easier for students to complete hands-on assignments and learn at their convenience.”
The NFNRC NETLAB+ staff at Folsom Lake College will make this feature available on selected pods upon instructor request. For more information contact Markus Geissler, NETLAB+ Steering Committee member, at .
