Information Communication Technologies & Digital Media Sector Team

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Markus Geissler has accepted the role of Deputy Sector Navigator, ICT-Digital Media for the Sacramento Region.

Markus is a welcome addition to the Sector Team. “We are quite pleased,” said Steve Wright, ICT-DM Sector Navigator. “Markus will be a tremendous asset to the Sacramento Region and he will have a statewide impact on our Computer Sciences pathways and offerings.”


Markus has served the students of Cosumnes River College (CRC) in Sacramento, CA as a Professor of Computer Information Science since 1998, and enjoys teaching transfer-oriented as well as career and technical education courses in Information Technology (IT) and Network Administration. He has taught online since 1999, served as a Mentor Teacher for the California Virtual Campus in the early 2000s, and enjoys creating educational media to enhance student learning in his courses.

Since 2014 Markus has served as the chair of the statewide C-ID Information Systems/Information Technology Faculty Discipline Review Group, co-authoring the Information Technology Model Curriculum (IT MC) for California Community Colleges being adopted at many colleges throughout the state.

He was recently appointed a member of the Association for Computing Machinery’s Committee for Computing Education in Community Colleges (ACM CCECC) which develops curriculum guidance and builds interest in the computing disciplines. He has served on two Accreditation Visiting Teams for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). He serves on CRC’s Distance Education and Information Technology Committee as well as the Los Rios Community College District’s Educational Technology Committee, and he regularly collaborates with transfer institutions, high schools, and industry partners to help streamline educational pathways for IT students.

Markus earned his Ph.D. in Organization and Management (e-Business specialization) from Capella University, M.B.A. and B.S. degrees in Business Administration (Management Information Systems concentration) from California State University, Sacramento, and an A.S. degree in French and Spanish from DeAnza College. Markus’ research interests include aligning information technology with culture and human-computer interaction

Markus also serves his community at large as the Artistic Director for the Sacramento Turn Verein’s Alpentänzer Schuhplattler, a folk dance troupe which performs traditional Bavarian and Austrian folk dances, accompanied by a live band, throughout Northern California. He plays several instruments, including the accordion and the alphorn. He enjoys frequent international travel, regularly visits his relatives in Germany, speaks several languages, and enjoys learning about different cultures.
